The importance of credibility Blog #9

Image
If there is one thing that English 102 has taught me is that if any source is to be treated seriously, it must be credible. Credibility is what a source of information has when it is backed up with refutable resources. What this means is a source, such as a informational video, a article, a book, or anything of the like, has their information fact-checked and unbiased. In the modern world we are blessed with a plethora of information in our back pocket, unfortunately that information is of no use if it's not factual. While on the topic of the modern world, there is so many ways to access access information, but easily one of our favorites as a society is social media. At the push of a couple buttons, we have access to boundless information but here is where that goes amiss. On the internet anyone can say anything they want to, regardless if it's factual or not. A recent example of this happening is the events following the election. What was so significant about this election ...

My top seven Slipknot songs ranked: least to most favorite Blog Post #10

Image
In contrast to my usual, feminist, activist, and health orientated online persona, I am a maggot. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, no, I'm not a insect, although I think we can all agree finals week has everyone buggin'. W hat I am however, is a massive Slipknot fan (otherwise known as a maggot). Circa 1995 in Des Moines Iowa, Slipknot was born, and their first album was released in 1999, that was named after the band itself. Following this album release, they would go on to release seven studio albums, hence why I will be discussing my top seven Slipknot songs, and why.  #7 Psychosocial- Every time I listen to this song I remember my eighth grade self thrashing around my room with absolute joy with this song in my ears for the first time. The song is timeless, and the lyrics sound like pure poetry, with the chorus going: "And the rain will kill us all" "Throw ourselves against the wall" "And no one else can see" "The preservation of the...

The Importance #Metoo had in the Woman's Rights movement Blog Post #7

Image
**The following information I am about to disclose is extremely sensitive and involves the topics of rape, sexual assault, and sexual violence. If you or someone close to you has been sexually assaulted please call the rape, abuse, and incest National Network: 1-800-656-HOPE    The hashtag (#) these days may seem like such a forgotten part about social media. One might see a hashtag in an influencers Instagram or Tictok, but besides that, the symbol lacks much modern presence. Although this symbol may lack relevance for the masses now, this symbol increased the visibility and momentum of the Women's Rights Movement that the world had never seen. Before social media, the only news about a woman being abused, raped, or stalked was rarely discussed. Whereas the minute information that did exist was only about extremely gruesome sexual assaults or murder, and even then it only got media coverage when a body was reported or someone else reported the crime. Transitioning to th...

How beneficial is waking up at five am? Blog Post #8

Image
These days it feels as common as rice to hear about fitness influencers bragging about waking up at an insane time, all in the name of "getting the grind." I'm sure many of you have seen at least one of those protein filled, creatine-coated, five am vibe day-in-the- life's. Where their life seems so glamorous from the outside looking in, but ultimately feels unattainable because of their extremely disciplined regimens. What I'm inquiring is could there be any reasonable benefits besides grandiose bragging rights, a descent gym photo, and a reasonably sized headache.  Universally, anyone feels, groggy, tired, stressed out, sucky mental health and all around gross after a morning that is earlier than what they're used to, and that's normal. However, if a person prepares the night before, and gets the substantial sleep they need, there are several benefits to waking up at five am. Firstly being, improved mental health .    Both the Sleep Foundation, and Int...

The Irony of Capitalism's justification: My reaction to Capitalism : A Love Story: Extra credit blog

Image
In the documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story, is about Michael Moore, and his friend, and actor, Wallace Shawn, walking us through this comedic, sarcastic, and raw documentary about the dark side of the United States: Capitalism. The film being made back in 2009, it captured the events leading up to the Obama election, and even described how him winning the election would've benefited the people and hopefully help end Capitalism itself back then.    Capitalism, was described as something like this in the video: Capitalism is a street full of shops, and the person with the best shop, gets the most customers, and makes the most money. Pretty good deal right? Unfortunately, here is where the middle, and lower classes come in to play. The shopkeepers with the most customers, and money (banks, and multi-million dollar companies) don't want to let any of their money go anywhere else regardless: even if it comes at the lower class and middle class expense. Below are just some o...

What's the big idea? Blog entry #3

Image
Just yesterday, CNN released a video about Trumps admin releasing war plans against Yemen to Jeffrey Goldberg, a journalist for The Atlantic. In the video, a CNN anchorwoman spoke with Ryan Goodman, a legal scholar about war plans against Yemen being leaked to a The Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg. The people involved in the group chat were all members of Donald Trump's admin, their names being: Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, Tulsi Gabbard, director of national intelligence(the irony, right?), John Ratcliffe, CIA director, Mike Waltz, National Security Advisor, J.D. Vance, Vice President, and Pete Hegseth, Defense Secretary.  At first glance this seems quite appalling, as is nearly anything this man has done. Such as, transgendered people must now identify with the gender they were born with in the armed forces, or how national websites about female healthcare have been mysteriously wiped, and how Mexicans and Native American's are now being targeted and chased out of ...

Blog Post #6: The health benefits of power walking

Image
Being nearly four months into the New Year, it is highly likely that people remember those resolutions some of them made at the beginning of the year. Maybe it was to have a morning jog every day, or wanting to do cryotherapy at least once a week. One of those may have been walking briskly for about 2 miles, or 30 minutes (like mine) and today this blog will be dedicated to discussing those benefits. Regardless of the status of how well a person has implemented any new habits from the beginning of this year, maybe this article can convince, or at least educate on just how excellent power walking is for the body.                                                             Image Citation  1. Reward release, pain reduce, and stress relief, oh my!  The happy feeling after experiencing a good meal, an excellent workout, or even...
